How our adoption process works.

Step 1:  Please read How To Adopt A Great Pyrenees.  It explains the process of adopting a Great Pyrenees from us.

Step 2:  Please fill out the "Home Evaluation/Application" form below. As soon as we receive that, the adoption process begins. Thisis required our dogs are adopted to approved homes only.

  • Home Evaluation/Application(PDF Version): This is the printable version of our application.  Please print, fill out, and either mail or fax it 916-290-0321 to us.  You must include your 3 references (names and phone numbers) anywhere on the last page.
Step 3: Once we receive your application, we will go over it and then contact your references. Once that's done, we will schedule a home study so that we can make sure that your fences are secure and the you can provide a safe environment for the dog(s).

Applications are numbered in the order that they are received and adoptee preference in dogs reflects this.  There is no other fair way to do this, so getting your application in fast is very important! Because we are rescue, we get dogs in all of the time, so if there doesn't appear to be a dog available that suits your family right now, check back again soon!

All of our dogs are veterinarian checked, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and current on vaccinations.  All dogs leave with a care package of a collar, leash, starter food, all copies of medical records and information we have on the animal and some complimentary items of interest (training and health) from petfinder.com.

Finally, we engage you into a contract to insure that you understand your responsibilities to the dog and to us, giving us first right of refusal if you ever have to give your dog up (sometimes life happens) and we also commit to you that we will be a resource to you for the life of the dog. When you adopt a dog from SPGPC you automatically get a one year membership to the club. This allows you to be in touch with other members/Pyr owners, particpate in group events and get involved with our organization and it's many activites!

If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Pam Tobin, Rescue Chair
